Flamin' Hot!

Writer: Michelle Sabala HagerottMichelle Sabala Hagerott

Looking for a funny, heartfelt movie to share with your kids this summer? I generally don't get hooked by the programs my boys watch, but last week as I was clearing the kitchen after breakfast I happened to catch some conversation in a movie they were watching on Disney +. It was narrated in much the same way as "The Wonder Years", with an American Latino twist, set in 1970s-80s southern California. "Mom", my boys told me, "It's called Flamin' Hot" and it's about the guy who came up with Flamin' Hot Cheetos." I tried to return to the dishes, but the story was just too good, and I ended up parking myself in front of the television as the movie progressed.

I laughed, I cried, and when all was said and done, I walked away with all the warm fuzzies. I'll not spoil the plot for you, but if you have an hour and a half to give it a watch, you'll be glad you did. And you might learn some new Mexican slang along the way.

Have you seen this movie? ¿Qué te pareció?
