¿Topics?  Practical, everyday Spanish conversation and basic grammar. Special topics as requested by students.

¿Materials?  Instructor will provide all digital materials and resources. Students have the option to purchase physical textbook.

¿Cost?  First session October 30 is FREE. Course fee of US$119 includes six 90-minute live, interactive sessions, 2 one-on-one sessions, materials, and more! (see details below)

Details:

Join us Mondays for a live, interactive beginner Spanish class (for more advanced students, email michelle.hagerott@culturaconnections.com for other class options). You will be speaking from day one! Each class is 90 minutes long and will focus on practical conversation and basic grammar. Students will engage in activities designed to help them gain confidence in their speaking abilities.   Instructor will provide exercises, activities, and other resources for students to continue with self-study throughout the week outside of class. All digital materials, including the textbook, will be provided by the instructor. Students have the option to purchase the physical textbook on Amazon: Easy Spanish Step-by-Step by Barbara Bregstein. In addition to text, other instructional materials such as audio, video, and online exercises will be provided. Though class will meet on Mondays only, the instructor will assign additional practice and enrichment activities throughout the week.  Participants should have a stable internet connection, a computer or tablet with a screen large enough to participate in reading exercises, and a headset or earbuds with a microphone.

 

The introductory session on October 30 is FREE! Final registration fee of US$119 includes the following:

  • 6 weekly live interactive 90-minute classes via Zoom

  • 2 private one-on-one sessions (20 minutes each) with instructor *must be scheduled before completion of course

  • Access to videos of all recorded class sessions

  • Membership in classroom platform/community during duration of course

  • All digital materials and additional resources

  • End of session in-person meet-up and Spanish conversation (Wichita, Kansas, USA)

  • Certificate of completion for students who actively participate in classes

The following weekly topics are subject to change based on students' needs:

 

Week 1: Greetings and Introductions

- Basic conversation: greetings, introductions, asking and giving names, saying goodbye

- Basic grammar: subject pronouns, verb “ser” (to be), gender and number agreement

Week 2: Numbers and Dates

- Basic conversation: counting, asking and giving phone numbers, asking and giving dates and other data

- Basic grammar: cardinal numbers, days of the week, months of the year, telling time

Week 3: Food and Drink

- Basic conversation: ordering food and drinks, expressing likes and dislikes, making requests, placing orders, making purchases

- Basic grammar: definite and indefinite articles, noun gender, basic vocabulary for food, drinks, restaurants, purchases

Week 4: Daily Routine

- Basic conversation: talking about daily activities, telling time, making plans

- Basic grammar: present tense of regular verbs, reflexive verbs, basic vocabulary for daily routine

Week 5: Places and Directions

- Basic conversation: asking for and giving directions, talking about locations

- Basic grammar: prepositions of location, verb “ir” (to go) and "estar" (to be), basic vocabulary for places in town

Week 6: Travel and Leisure

- Basic conversation: making travel plans, talking about hobbies and interests

- Basic grammar: verb “gustar” (to like), expressions of frequency, basic vocabulary for travel and leisure
